Panihati

Panihati

The Chida-dadhi Mahotsav, also known as the Chipped Rice Festival of Panihati, is a yearly celebration of the pastimes of Srila Raghunatha dasa Goswami and Lord Nityananda Prabhu. This astonishing pastime took place on the banks of the Ganges at Panihati, which is just north of Calcutta. Lord Caitanya and his associates enjoyed many transcendental pastimes here. Chida-dadhi Mahotsav reminds us how the Lord mercifully reciprocated with His devotees by arranging, through Nityananda Prabhu and Raghunatha dasa, to provide an ecstatic feast of yoghurt and chipped rice, along with various other nectar foodstuffs.

Snana Yatra Chida Dadhi Festival

Snana-yatra is an important pastime of Lord Jagannath. On this day, Jagannath, Baladeva, and Subhadra allow Themselves to be bathed by all following the original tradition of worship at Jagannath Puri. Our devotees as well as hundreds of local people enthusiastically assemble at the Jagannath temple to perform abhisheka with Cauvery water, milk, etc. This bathing goes on for a few hours in the midst of kirtanas glorifying Their Lordships and the chanting of the maha-mantra. Soon after which, We get Special Hati (Elephant) Vesh Darshan of Lord Jagannatha, Balarama & Subadra. Lord Jagannath’s prasada is also offered to all visitors. Lord Jagannath’s pastimes are such that after snana-yatra, Jagannath, Balarama and Subhadra become “sick”, and, so, must take “medicines” and “take rest” until they become “rejuvenated” enough to go for Ratha-yatra. When they are “sick”, they are offered bhoga containing medicinal herbs without the usual offerings.
