Jagannath Mandir, Dhurwa, Ranchi

Jagannath Temple is the seventeenth-century temple dedicated to Lord Jagannath which nestles on a small hillock at Jagannathpur. It is situated in Dhurwa, on the outskirts of the capital city, about 11 kilometers from the railway station and 6 kilometers from the airport.

It was built by the king of Barkagarh, Jagannathpur Thakur Ani Nath Shahdeo, in 1691. A huge procession and fair during the time of 'Rath Yatra' happen to be the most stunning sight of Jagannath temple. Devotees from near and far places gather here to catch a glimpse of the gigantic Rath that carries Lord Jagannath in its holy seat.

The temple also has a large hall in its complex, where thousands of marriages are solemnized every year. It can be reached through various means of locally available transport and light vehicles.

When you visit the Jagannath temple, you will be mesmerized by its sacred atmosphere, serene surroundings, and beautiful sculpture. From the summit, you can see Ranchi city and enjoy a bird's eye view. The evening aarti at the Jagannath Temple brings a sense of tranquility to the mind.

Chaitanya mahaprabhu lotus feet

The great Indian saint Chaitanya Mahaprabhu of the 15th century is considered to be the combined incarnation of Radha and Krishna in India. He explained Bhakti Yoga and popularized the chanting of the Hare Krishna maha-mantra. Chaitanya Mahaprabhu Kamal Pad is situated in Ramgarh of Jharkhand state is one of the famous religious places of Jharkhand. Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is believed to have spent some unique moments of his life at this place. Even today the memories of the feet of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu can be seen. The life-size idol of Saint Chaitanya Mahaprabhu present in the courtyard is considered to be very popular among the devotees, as well as a room has visible statues of Lord Radha Krishna, which is a symbol of faith and worship. Along with religious features, this place also has natural features, this entire place is situated in the middle of beautiful forests and beautiful water bodies. As soon as you reach here, you will feel the immense peace and glory of Lord Krishna. This famous place is located in Ramgarh Cantonment, a short distance from Ramgarh.

Baba Daninath Temple

There are many places of interest for Lord Shiva in the state of Jharkhand. The famous Baba Daninath of Dumka, Kathikund Temple, famous for its historical evidence, is one of the major popular places of Lord Shiva in Jharkhand. It is believed that Baba Daninath fulfills the wishes of all the devotees who come here. Apart from Baba Daninath, many temples are established in the temple premises.

Kathikund can also be called a group of many temples. Baba Daninath Temple, which holds the oldest memories, is just 25 km away from Dumka district. People from far and wide come here and every year a ten-day fair is organized here on the occasion of Mahashivratri, which is very popular. This temple is also very scenic and attractive from the natural point of view and attracts people towards it.

Dassam Falls

About 45 kms from Ranchi, enroute Jamshedpur, a motorable road branching off from NH 33, turns right towards Taimara village. It is here that the Kanchi River, a wild tributary of River Swarnarekha tumbles down from a height of 144 feet in full glory, to say the original name of the falls Da-Song, believed to be given during the British Raj, probably stems from the pristine beauty and the reverberations of the water at the falls. The ideal time to visit the place is between October to January and get rejuvenated in the lap of nature.

Jonha Falls

About 45 kms away from Ranchi situated on the Ranchi-Purulia Highway, is the Jonha Falls, named after the local village. It is also known as the Gautamdhara, as there is a temple dedicated to Lord Budha, in its vicinity. The rocks here seem to beckon you down its natural gradient to join the frothy gurgling water of the River. The fall appears relatively more somber, enhancing the picturesque charm of the spot.

Important points to be considered by the devotees in the Yatra

  • Devotees should be punctual in their reporting time and Group leaders are to ensure that others are not delayed by the delay of few devotees. Every day the Yatra will leave as scheduled and will not wait for late comers.
  • Devotees should stay together and not plan any thing separate from the Yatra.
  • All Devotees are assigned to a group leader and they should report to their group leader for all matters.
  • Separate timing will be given for purchases/ shopping and devotees should not go here and there for purchases.
  • Devotees should bring their own lock with multiple keys and the Yatra management does not hold responsibility for any loss of baggage.
  • Devotees should carry their essentials like medicine, water bottle, ropes for drying clothes etc.
  • Please carry your chanting beads and a Vaishnava song book.
  • Please actively participate in kirtans.
  • Devotees are requested to carry some emergency food for old aged and children for emergency though Prasadam is arranged for all on all the Yatra days.
  • Devotees are suggested to carry their notebook and pen for taking notes during the Yatra.
  • The best way to relish the Yatra is to hear from senior devotees about the glories of the Lord and his pastimes.
  • Devotees should bring their original identity card (aadhar) and submit as and when requested.
  • Devotees should not offend any Dham vasis by arguing or quarrelling with them.
  • No one should enter a pond or a river for bathing without the permission of the group leader.
  • Devotees should not throw garbage and should keep the Dham clean and also keep silence.
  • Devotees are requested to travel light particularly those travelling by flight. The allowed baggage allowance is 15 Kgs for check in and 7 Kgs for cabin.
  • Please check the weather details online and carry clothes accordingly.
  • Devotees are requested to come in Vaishnava dress that is Dhoti and Kurta for Prabhujis and Saree for Matajis during temple visits.
  • Devotees are requested to not carry any expensive items like jewellery, iPads etc.
  • Aged devotees, women and children to be given first priority and their needs to be attended on priority.
  • As far as possible, requesting yatris to not consume outside food.
  • Do not travel if there are any serious health issues.
  • Life members can carry LPM (life patron cards).
